Obituary of Marion Jarrell

Please share a memory of Marion to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jarrell, Marion Elizabeth (nee Lewis) - Passed away peacefully at the Stedman Community Hospice on Sunday, April 7th, 2024 in her 67th year. Beloved wife of Bill Houliston for 12 years. Daughter of the late Ronald Curtis Lewis and Elizabeth Cavanaugh (Lewis, nee Mahon) Loving mother of Emily, Ian (Sarah) and Curtis. Cherished grandmother of Perry and Brady. Survived by her brother David Lewis. Predeceased by her sister Barbara Haverson. As a young child Marion spent her summers at the Stormont Yacht Club where she became a keen and accomplished sailor. After squeezing 5 years of High School into four, she attended Queens University, graduating with a MBA in 1981. Her first job was for Newfoundland Light and Power in St Johns NFLD where she was likely the first female professional hired in the head office. Most of Marion’s career was in Brantford and vicinity working in Finance positions for school boards and the Dept of Education. She retired as Controller of Finances from the Waterloo District School Board in 2013. As a loving mother, Marion made it a priority to create shared experiences with her family, filling holidays with ski vacations to Quebec and western Canada and summers with camping trips across eastern Canada. Marion always strived to gather family together. Marion’s passion was golf. She met her husband Bill while looking for a golf partner, and in doing so found a partner to share her life with. They married August 2011. As a certified Canadian Rules Official, she organized tournaments, the Tuesday women’s league and many trips away for friends and the local golfing community. Marion’s love for walking the golf course was equaled to her time spent on the club patio sharing laughs and creating shared memories. The family would like to extend a special thank you to VON nurses Patty and Crystal who cared for Marion with grace and compassion. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford, 519-752-4331 on Thursday, April 11th from 12:30 pm. A funeral service will commence at 1:30 pm in the chapel. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Friday, April 12th beginning at 2:00 pm at the North Ridge Golf Course, 320 Balmoral Dr, Brantford. Cremation has taken place; a private interment has taken place at Farringdon Burial Grounds. Donations to the Stedman Hospice, Juravinski Cancer Center, VON or the charity of your choice would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. A tree will be planted in memory of Marion in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
